Director of General Studies

Rather than try to update this space with happenings from the last year and a half and the many conferences and events (Salt Lake City, Boise State, Orlando, Phoenix), I'll just say things have been busy!  A team of us at MSU Denver renovated our General Studies program beginning in June of 2018.  In the end I couldn't seem to give up control of the program we had built, but hadn't yet implemented, so I've become the Director of General Studies.  This is a brand new position at MSU Denver and this should help build a new era of program cohesiveness as we continue to strive to educate the students of MSU Denver in the best way possible.  Luckily for me, I still get to see my students and be half-professor-half-director and I'm still teaching two classes, MTR 1600 Global Climate Change (General Studies course) and MTR 3450 Dynamic Meteorology.  My advisory board and I are just nailing down a few important details before we start training faculty and collecting data on student learning in the spring.

I'll leave you with our new mission statement and our program visualization.  You can read more about the program here:  https://www.msudenver.edu/generalstudies/

The General Studies program provides the foundation for the Bachelor’s degree. Students develop thinking, reasoning, and communication skills while discovering new ideas and expanding their views.  The coursework is designed to create the opportunity for learning across different disciplines and builds experiences for students as they grow into lifelong learners.
